GUDRUN & GUDRUN
Yes, we welcomed a new brand at SWAY!
Gudrun & Gudrun -as they call themselves- a slow-clothing brand that specializes in wool has dropped their newest collection in our shop.
We are so honoured to work with Gudrun & Gudrun as the collections are all handmade. Hand-knitted. Meaning that the women in the Faroe islands, Jordan and Peru have spent hours in their houses on every single piece; literally knitting time into every piece of clothing.
Ingun (photo) is one of their superknitters. She has knitted over 1000 sweaters for the brand. And apart from doing an amazing job as a knitter, she is also a full-time nurse!
When you buy a piece of Gudrun & Gudrun you support their women's empowerment project, where they empower woman all over the world who make our garments by hand. They want to bring human decency back to the fashion industry – one
stitch at the time.
Their knitwear is rooted in the old knitting traditions of the faroe islands. But they say nothing ever changed; their sheep still roam free in the mountains, and knitting is still practiced by women of all ages - as it has always been.
They aim to make sweaters that feel warm, look beautiful and last a lifetime. The two ingredients to achieve that is a little wool and a lot of know-how.
Gudrun & Gudrun love to work with wool because of it's amazing properties: it's thickness keeps you warm in winter, its breathability keeps you cool in summer, and somehow – as if by magic – it also keeps you dry in pouring rain. That's why there is an old faroese saying: wool is the gold of the faroe islands. It was the most precious of materials back in the day. But the fact is – Faroese sheepskin has for decades been discarded and the wool been burnt around here. Until Gudrun & Gudrun turned Faroese wool into something usable, something of true value.
Our choice also went to the ecowool line. Beautiful elegant basics
in the softest italian merino wool & 100% organic. They are as light
as a feather, but will still keep you warm. These ecowool styles never
change shape and due to a new invented method you can wash it on 30
This organic wool is KBT certified this means that the sheep only eat organic grass and that the sheering of wool is controlled. And the product is also IVN certified which means no use of chemicals are used in the process of spinning, washing, and dyeing.
Italian merino wool is all around the world considered the softest of lambswool. You will get addicted to the quality. ♡
